What to Do If Computer Cannot Detect Removable Drive

“In the morning, I had lounged my removable drive to my computer for copying some files. However, the most wired thing followed. I connected it as before. But the consequence seemed different. I couldn’t find it in “My computer”. I also tried to disconnect it many times. However, it was the same. Could someone tell me what’s wrong with it?”

Do you can find it in “Disk Management”? (You can find “Disk Management” like this: right click “My Computer”=> Select “Manage”=> Click “Disk Management”.)

If you cannot see it, it always happens for several reasons below, just learn the knowledge of computer:

1. The faulty connection.

Sometimes, the broken connection cable or loose connection can cause the undetected drive problem. You can change a new connection cable or disconnect it to the computer to have a try.

2. The incompatible problem or System setting problem.

Sometimes, the operating system cannot be compatible with your removable drive, which may also lead to this problem. For example, Windows2000、Windows XP and the much more advanced version can directly support the removable drive working without any driver.

If one encounters this similar problem, he should come to “C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers”, see whether there is a file named “sptd.sys”, delete this file and restart the computer. After these all steps, every problem is gone.

However, on the contrary, if you use the Windows98, you have to install a driver. Therefore, the incompatible problem can be one reason.

However, in your case, since you have used this drive on your computer before, you can exclude this reason.

3. Improper operation.

Before you insert your drive, you are supposed to close any running application on your computer. This can be a good measure to help you to avoid this problem. However, in your condition, your problem may be caused by this reason. You can try to delete the “Unknown Device” in “System device”, pull out your drive and restart your computer. As usual, after completing it, you problem can be resolved.

4. Drive problem.

The drive damage can also cause this problem. Therefore, you should use your drive rightly and safely. If you can see it, you can definitely change or add a name to it.
