Apple’s MacBook and iMac Might Be Ideal Platform For Face ID

News on Oct. 4th, Apple’s Face ID was unveiled with iPhone X, but the presentation was slightly embarrassing at Apple’s launch event. Perhaps Apple’s MacBook and iMac are the ideal platform for Face ID, analysts say.

In aspects of security and speed, FaceID has obvious advantages, which were mentioned by Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice President for global marketing at the event. Probability of random cracking for FaceID which supports facial recognition is one millionth, while for Touch ID which supports fingerprint recognition previously is 20 parts per million. As for recognition speed, according to foreign media reports, facial recognition takes less than one millionth of a second.

Unfortunately, it’s just the iPhone’s privilege for now, but actually it also can be used on other Apple devices like the MacBook and iMac.

Analysts believe that compared with iPhone, the size of MacBook and iMac is bigger, there will be neither device size limitation as iPhone, nor concerns about all screen design problems. Now that Apple can integrate Face ID to realize facial recognition function on iPhone, larger Apple devices such as iMac and MacBook would not be much of an issue.

In addition, MacBook, iMac and other Apple devices now have the trend to adopt the same unlock way with iPhone, last year, Apple published MacBook Pro with integrated Touch ID, which realized fingerprint unlock. And now facial recognition is one of the major developing trend, Apple may probably use it on MacBook and iMac in the future.
